Advice on Submitting Your Music To Playlist Curators

Submitting your music to a playlist curator can be a great way to get your music heard and potentially gain exposure.

The process can be daunting, especially if you're not sure how to write a professional email that will catch their attention and persuade them to listen to your music.

To help you out, here are some tips on how to write an email to submit your music to a playlist curator:

1. Research the playlist and curator

Before you send your email, do some research on the playlist and curator you want to submit your music to. Make sure that your music fits the genre and vibe of the playlist, and that the curator is currently accepting submissions.

2. Start with a professional greeting

When you begin your email, make sure to address the curator by their name (if you can find it) and use a professional greeting. Delaynote makes it easy to find a curators email and message they have on Spotify. Browse from thousands of playlists that are looking for songs, completely free. Create a free Delaynote account here.

Here's an example email template that you can use as a starting point:

Dear [Curator's Name],

My name is [Your Name], and I'm a [genre] musician based in [City, Country]. I'm reaching out to submit my latest single, [Song Title], to your playlist, [Playlist Name].

Spotify Link: [Spotify URL]

I've been a fan of your playlist, and think my music would be a great fit. My sound is similar to [Artist Name], and I think that [Song Title] would complement the other tracks on your playlist.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my submission. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Best regards,

[Your Name]

3. Introduce yourself and your music

In the first paragraph, introduce yourself and your music. Keep it brief and to the point, but be sure to include important information such as your name, artist name, and the title of the song you're submitting. Make it clear what playlist you are wanting to submit to and clearly link the Spotify playlist.

4. Mention why you're submitting your music

In the second paragraph, explain why you're submitting your music to this particular playlist. Be specific and mention any similarities between your music and the playlist, or any other reasons why you think your music would be a good fit. Keep it short!

5. Provide a link to your music

Make it easy for the curator to listen to your music by providing a single Spotify link. Avoid sending a link to your artist page or multiple songs. A curator will be looking through sometimes hundreds of email submissions and won't have time to look through everything.

6. Close with a professional sign-off

In the final paragraph, thank the curator for their time and consideration, and close with a professional sign-off, such as “Best regards,” or “Sincerely,”

7. Don't mass CC emails

Keep your email personal with the curator. Avoid copying in mass email addresses into the same email. It will give a spammy look and the curator will know you aren't really interested in listening to their playlist. It's also a quick way for your email to end up in spam mailboxes.

8. Follow up (but don't be pushy)

If you don't hear back from the curator within a week or two, it's okay to follow up with a polite email to check in. However, don't be pushy or demanding, and respect their decision if they choose not to include your music in their playlist.

Remember, submitting your music to a playlist curator is just one step in the process of getting your music heard. Keep working hard, networking, and promoting your music, and don't be discouraged if you don't hear back right away. We have found better success by submitting to smaller playlists who don't have tens of thousands of followers. If you can get onto lots of smaller playlists, the Spotify algorithm will see your music doing it's rounds and begin to increase plays further.
